EAD Retrofits Cargill Breaker
Cargill Corn Milling in Blair, NE trusted EAD with replacing a 4,000-amp fused disconnect with a circuit breaker to significantly reduce an electrical hazard within the plant. Coordinating with the plant, EAD also managed the circuit breaker installation.
EAD custom-designed and fabricated the remotely controlled circuit breaker to ensure fit into the existing fuse disconnect location.
Even though the necessity of precise measurements complicated the project’s execution, EAD’s work provided greater personnel safety due to the remote operation. In addition, the breaker reduced the reaction time to clear an electrical fault by more than 13 times compared to the previous disconnect and reduced the incident energy level in the event of an arc flash by more than 45 times. Better coordination and quicker responses to faults also helped to reduce damage to downstream equipment in instances of major electrical fault.
