In one major project, we planned and managed the removal and replacement of 40,000 square feet of deteriorated roofing at a leading food processing plant facility. The existing roof condition presented a food safety hazard given its potential to contaminate and/or cause bacterial growth on the facility production lines. After extensive investigation and planning in cooperation with plant management and maintenance personnel, EAD successfully managed the project’s construction phases.
Interior scaffolding and double containment enclosures were constructed to ensure that the plant could continue operating normally while under construction. EAD performed quality control on the containment systems and monitored and course-corrected issues in real-time. We also provided food safety orientation training for all of our client’s contractors and employees. Thanks to EAD’s leadership and management, the roof was successfully repaired on schedule, within budget, and without any recorded safety incidents.
Our client’s existing sewer system has been in place since the 1960s and was deteriorated beyond repair. Therefore, as part of a seven-year, $13MM initiative, EAD also provided engineering, technical design, and construction support for the replacement of our client’s existing interior and exterior sanitary sewer systems. Since our client operates under a 24/7/365 production schedule, EAD had to develop creative methods to complete the work and maintain sanitation standards while the plant was still in operation. EAD used double wall containments constructed of metal studs and poly and negative ventilation in the construction area to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. We implemented gowning rooms, travel route planning, and strict sanitation procedures. Together, these solutions ensured our client met all critical food safety standards without impacting the plant product schedule or bottom line.
