Collaboration Avoids Production Interruption
Nestled in the plains of South-Central Nebraska, this client, manufactures products that help hundreds of million of diabetics worldwide. EAD was selected by the medical device manufacturer as the general contractor responsible for managing the removal and replacement of six of their existing chilled water air-handling units from their deteriorating roof system. EAD replaced 32,000 sq. ft. of the roof and employed ground-based structural platforms to reduce the rood load. We completed the work in phases, coordinating the critical construction activities and tie-ins during the client’s facility downtimes so that the client could keep the facility operational throughout the entire construction process. A new humidification system with deionized water was installed to enhance the operation efficiencies of the existing molding equipment.
EAD also redesigned and managed the replacement of the client’s rooftop HVAC system. The re-design involved the replacement of portions of the client’s ceiling and the implementation and programming of a new HVAC controls unit that tied into the client’s existing system. EAD provided over $112,000 of value engineering suggestions by identifying portions of the third party design that could be modified or eliminated. We also identified deficiencies in the building structural design related to the existing underground facilities and worked with the building designer to address these.
Although the time needed to perform the work pushed back the project schedule, our advocacy for our client’s best interests saved them more than $270,000 in structural steel fabrication work. At the conclusion of the project, the client not only expressed pleasure about the savings, but about the way that EAD managed their complicated construction project with hygienic construction techniques that reduced the need for facility downtimes.
