EAD Tackles City of Ames, IA Power Plant Switching Station
Challenge:
The City of Ames, Iowa was in need of one 100 MVA, 161/69 kV autotransformer. They also needed multiple 161 kV transmission bays and integration into existing power plant substation 69 kV main and transfer bus. EAD tackled challenging terrain features – including an irregularly shaped, sloped parcel of land on which the City of Ames’s switching station was built – to complete all portions of the project from conception to final checkout.
Solution:
The project included a complete from-the-ground-up design, construction administration and observation services. EAD developed a solution for all of the 161 kV switching stations to integrate into the client’s 161 and 69 kV transmission loops. EAD was responsible for all portions of the project from conception to final checkout.
EAD’s design for the relocation of the 69 kV transmission lines in the immediate vicinity allowed the switching station to free up space for construction of the station. EAD was also able to tackle the challenging terrain features to complete the power plant switching station.
Projects are brought to EAD with different challenges and expertise necessary to get the job done. We value our client’s time and needs, it’s why we love working with our customers time and time again on new challenges. Follow the link to learn more about EAD and our portfolio of project profiles.
