Green Plains relies on EAD to conduct Process Safety Management (PSM) system audits, OSHA and EPA-compliant Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and NFPA-compliant Dust Hazard Analyses (DHA) at their facilities across the nation. Facilities for the production of both fuel ethanol and beverage ethanol, as well as all varieties of vinegar, are located in eighteen states from coast to coast.
EAD has served Green Plains’ multiple locations on an ongoing basis for several years. Most of their locations were acquired by Green Plains in a small time frame. Often in support of those acquisitions, our services entail assisting corporate and plant-level staff with the development and standardization of PSM and process safety culture. The process safety systems and cultures were as varied as the previous owners of the facilities. Once the programs were brought up to Green Plains’ high standards, the locations were able to reach their fullest potential for process safety.
Hazards present at the various facilities include flammable liquid and vapors, industrial chemicals such as acids, caustic and anhydrous ammonia, and combustible dust. FDA-compliant food safety considerations are also present for vinegar facilities and the animal food co-product of ethanol facilities.
